Explosion characteristics

Knowledge of the following explosion characteristics is essential for the dimensioning of protective measures. These parameters are determined in accordance with international standards in the 20 L laboratory apparatus:

EN 14034-1:
Determination of the maximum explosion pressure Pmax of dust/air mixtures
EN 14034-2:
Determination of the maximum temporal pressure increase (dp/dt)max of dust/air mixtures
EN 14034-3:
Determination of the lower explosion limit LEL of dust/air mixtures
EN 14034-4:
Determination of the limiting oxygen concentration SGK of dust/air mixtures
EN ISO/IEC 80079-20-2:
Explosive atmospheres - Test methods for combustible dusts
ASTM E1226:
Explosibility of Dust Clouds
ASTM E1515:
Minimum Explosible Concentration MEC of Combustible Dusts
ASTM E2931:
Limiting Oxygen Concentration LOC of Combustible Dusts

New instrumentation KSEP333+311

Over the almost 5 decades, the instrumentation has always been adapted to the state of the art. The aim has always been full backwards compatibility. Equipment from 1976 onwards can be brought up to date.

Absolute pressure measurement

Instead of the analogue and relative pressure display for the sphere and pre-chamber, absolute and digital measurements are now used. Errors caused by the barometric ambient pressure are eliminated.

Limiting oxygen concentration (LOC)

Thanks to the precise and absolute pressure measurement in the sphere and pre-chamber, it is possible to produce the desired air/inert gas mixture using the partial pressure method. Only one inert gas cylinder is required for this. The gas mixtures are created fully automatically. In contrast to the previous partial pressure method, the same mixture is now prepared in the pre-chamber and sphere.

New KSEP 8.0 software

  • Automatic preparation and test run
  • New control variables for quality control
  • Extended data export options
  • Support also for the 1m3 container
  • Built-in calibration
